I just read an interesting article about scientific names (read it here) and what they REALLY mean. There has been a wide campaign to scare consumers into thinking "If you can't pronounce it, it can't be safe!" and this article sheds some light on that issue. That is SO NOT TRUE! The scientific name of olive oil is olea europaea and the scientific name of coconut oil is cocos mucifera. Not easy to pronounce and look not quite natural, however they certainly are. There are many manufacturers out there of every kind of product, but his kind of tactic used by unscrupulous sources is below the belt and FALSE. Imagine a company that is purporting all natural products using this claim? They KNOW it is false, but they are very successful in scaring people into believing them and using their products or products they endorse. I am reminded of a passage from one of my favorite poems: "Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is. Many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism." Desiderata

Planted peas, lettuce and radishes Saturday!
Finally got me some peas in the ground. They are the sugar snap peas that you eat whole, three different kinds. I will make a second planting around the first of April too. And I'm going to plant some shelling peas then. I also planted several kinds of lettuce and some cherry belle radishes. Oh, and some early spinach. The beds are in my kitchen garden mixed in with perennial herbs like sage and marjoram. I am also looking into finding me some free or cheap bricks to pave my kitchen garden all around the beds. I look at Craigs list while Mr. Wonderful watches TV and he is satisfied that I am sitting in the living room with him, lol.
My sweet little dogs....Binx (black) & Boo (tan)
Look how cute! This was the boys Halloween costumes. Found them at Pet Smart by Martha Stewart and on sale. They can still wear them, they are really warm. They both need sweaters when it's really cold and it's really cold today!
The bluebirds of spring have sprung....
Look at these beautiful pictures of blue birds moving into our backyard bird houses. I just love these pretty bug eating birds!! It's a sure sign of spring, too.
